I got over $5,000 from the Pell grant. I was wondering if it would also pay for books.

Most of the time, the Pell grant goes toward tuition.

However; it is split into two semesters. So you'll get money for fall, and then spring.

After your bill is paid; if there is any money left over, you'll get that in a refund check. You can then use that to pay for books.

Any federal aid you get is given to you by semester. It will go into your college account. The college will charge the account for the semester for tuition, fees and also room and board if you dorm. When your federal aid gets deposited in your college account, the college will take out of that money first grants, then any federal loans you have gotten to pay the tuition, fees and room and board charges. Whatever is left of that is refunded to so you can buy books etc.
