The summer session coming up for 2012 falls under the 2011/2012 FAFSA. So that needs to have been done and the college needs to have it on file where you are attending in summer. You need to go to the financial aid office and ask if they offer summer financial aid. If they do they will have a summer aid application. It is not a FAFSA but just says the rules of summer aid program, you list your classes you will take and the credits and if you will dorm. That is how they know to do a summer aid award offer for you. If you have used up the max amounts of student loans during the regular semesters then they cannot offer you any more. My daughter is attending in summer and she was given a grant and offered sub and unsub staffords. She will deny the unsub because she does not need it.
They will do a summer financial aid budget for you including summer room and board, books, fees, tuition, personal and travel expenses. This is just an estimate. For my daughter hers was a very high budget. She does not need personal and travel expenses for summer which included 800 bucks. She works and can buy day to day things she needs and we live 45 minutes from the university so she needs no travel money to get their and back. Her dorm rent last summer was abougt 500 bucks so I was curious as to why her estimate for summer housing was 1400 and then I realized it said room and board so they are including money for food she may need to buy. Again we can afford her groceries so 1000 of that we do not need. Also they usually always estimate the books reallyhigh. So we will deny about 2000 unsub loan because we will not need it for our daughter. So that is something you have to look at.
Sometimes the summer aid application will be on your college site to download but you have to give it to your financial aid office. Just call the FA office and ask if they offer it and what you need to do.
