Im moving to Atlanta, GA. I know i have to wait 12 months to become a resident to get in-state tuition. I am asking if anyone knows if I can go to college online and still get my residency after 12 months? I dont wanna go online if its going to mess up my chance of getting residency. I dont mind just working for the 12 months. Im moving to Georgia for good.. I want to be a permanent resident of Georgia.

If you do online classes through a GA school it will affect your residency.

I would work and wait the 12 months, save money up for college, so you will be better off the next year :) It is just 2 semesters, it will go by fast!

IGNORE the first poster, they're WRONG.

Online classes have NO effect on your residency.

You can NOT change your residency while you're a student

Just moving to Georgia will not change your residency status, regardless how long you're there.

To be eligible for a change of residency, you must be able to prove you moved to said state for reasons other than to be a student (i.e. someone offered you a job, and you moved there for the position). After this you will have to show proof you have maintained a residence, including utilities and other assorted bills, out of your own pocket. You will also have to show proof you have changed your drivers license, vehicle registration, and become a registered voter.

After you have done this for 12 months consecutively, and you're over the age of 21, you can apply for official residency status.

If you then immediately quit your job, and apply to college, you will still be deemed an out of state student.

The ONLY state you're eligible for the in-state tuition discounts is your home state, where your parents reside and pay taxes.

That is dependent. Some high faculties permit you to audit institution publications for prime school credit score. If this is what you did, no, they will not transfer. Nevertheless, in the event you did well in them and wish to check out an AP test in the subject, you perhaps able to go out of intro-level guides and may or won't also accept credit (you can take AP checks with no need taken the category; you simply need to seem into how and the place that you may sign up and take them). If you happen to took the guides for institution credit, then you possibly ready to transfer them. A good indicator of whether the category was once for school credit or no longer will be the rate. For those who paid no more than a pair hundred to take it (no longer counting books and such), then your path simplest counts for prime university. If you happen to paid over a thousand, it's most likely for institution credit score. I know, sounds silly, it used to be the identical type either way, but that's the way it works. If you're uncertain, ask your institution.

You cannot gain residency as a student, even with online courses. If you begin attending as an out-of-state student, you remain so for as long as you attend.
