I'm a dependent and I do not work (I have never worked) . FAFSA is asking me if I filed for a 2012 IRS income tax return. I put "Not going to file". However, the next question asks me for the amount that I earned while working (once again, I have not worked).

I tried leaving it blank and clicking "next" but it won't let me proceed. It says that if I chose "not going to file", that I should "include the information from your 2012 W-2 Forms - box numbers 1 + 8." What should I do??? I have not worked yet it wants me to put information from my parents' W-2 form (I'm listed under my dad; my parents are married).

If you have never worked then you should put not going to file. The next question is asking you how much money you earned. You should put 0 (zero) in that spot. It won't let you leave it blank because it thinks you are skipping the question. Once you put in a zero it will let you continue. If you are a dependent you will be required to answer questions about both parents 2012 tax returns as well.

on condition that your wages are stated to the authorities, certain, you want to report them on the FAFSA. It receives a touch complicated with tips; they'll likely not be stated on the W2 that you and the authorities get, in which case it needs to be stated as extra income. you are able to verify your maximum modern-day pay stub or wait on your W2 to determine out your 2011 income that desire to be stated on the FAFSA.

You must provide a numerical answer in that field, you can't simply skip it. Use a zero (0) there and you can proceed.
