Hello,

Okay I've already filled out the FAFSA application for financial aid, loans, and grants for college 1 year ago, but I need a federal grant because I want to live on a University campus. Based on my current FAFSA application, I am not eligible for federal grants for college, because I am a dependent and my father earns a high income rather than a low income (like 90,000/year).
But recently I've discovered that I might be able to change this more or less by changing my FAFSA- race to Hispanic. My mother is full Japanese and my father is Italian American. I'm not saying that my Japanese/Italian American side would be the best fit for the FAFSA racial minority status, I'm saying that I recently discovered that my great grandfather (father's side) was full-Hispanic.
With this in mind, what will be the risks of listing myself as a Hispanic on the FAFSA? (I mean, how would it impact my future career and perhaps anything else other than the rules and regulations of the FAFSA) I'm pretty sure that I was told that as long as I hold a genealogical evidence that my great grandfather was full Hispanic then I can list myself as a Hispanic-minority to get federal grands (no-offense).

Thank you!

Not only are you NOT hispanic but the FAFSA does not ask anything about race and there are no special grants available for students based on race. You will not qualify for grants because you are not financially needy.

The FAFSA does not ask questions about race: From Wikipedia FAFSA: The FAFSA does not have questions related to student or family race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, or religion.

FAFSA does not take race into consideration when determining financial aid. You can classify yourself whatever race or ethnicity you want, it won't make any difference.
